Adding and Removing Stemming Passes

A suffix list can be composed of multiple passes since some word can have multiple suffixes such as the word frightening. The first pass could be used to trim off the suffix "ing" to find the word frighten and the second pass could be used to trim off the suffix "en" to find the word fright as well.

Use the Pass menu or the pop-up menu when you right-click of the Translate Table editor to add and delete stemming passes.

Adding a Stemming Pass

To add a stemming pass to the suffix list of a translate table do the following:

Select the Add Stemming Pass menu item from the Pass menu at the top of the translate table editor:

The new stemming pass will be added to the suffix list:

Removing a Stemming Pass

To remove a stemming pass from the suffix list of a translate table do the following steps:

Step 1

The first step is to make the suffix pass that is to be deleted the active word list in the translate table editor:

In this case we will be removing Pass 2.

Step 2

The second step is to select the Remove Stemming Pass menu item from the Pass menu at the top of the translate table editor:

A suffix list is required to have at least one pass. So if only one pass exists this menu item will be disabled.

Step 3

Before the pass is removed you will be prompted if the correct pass has been selected for removal:

If the correct pass is specified, click the Yes button to confirm the deletion.
